bet365 - Get In the Game with Nigel Ridgway - January 22, 2004
NFL
New England have been installed as 6.5 point favourites to win their second Super bowl in three seasons. That shouldn't bother Jim Fox's Panthers who were yet again under estimated by bookmakers at the weekend, beating handicap expectations by 15 points, after making light work of St Louis and Philadelphia on the road in the last two weeks. They would hardly expect anything different after starting out the campaign as 80/1 outsiders! New England were 25/1 back in September, although a slow start saw them drift out to 40/1 as Week Five approached, but will incredibly arrive in Houston a week on Sunday on a14-game streak. Despite this they have been underdogs in just as many games as Carolina this year, defying the handicap in road games at Tennessee, Miami and Indianapolis during their golden run.
Early Super Bowl XXXVIII Lines:
Game/Point Spread/Game Totals/Money Line
CAR Panthers +6.5 10/11 O 38.0 10/11 41/20
NE Patriots -6.5 10/11 U 38.0 10/11 20/49
Watch out for next week's column, which will carry a full game preview and carry news of some special bets.
NHL
Saturday night is hockey night, and one of the best rivalries in the game writes another chapter when Mats Sundin and the Leafs blow into Montreal to face Jose Theodore and the Canadiens. The tough Predators must still believe they have a shot at the play-offs but must go through Edmonton who is putting their own run together.

Bob Hope Classic
This week's Bob Hope golf will be a five round endurance test, and for the winner you should look towards an in-form player who has already shown himself comfortable with this patience testing pro-am format. Step forward Jerry Kelly, joint fifth at the Sony last week and with 'previous' in this event. Phil Mickleson makes his seasonal debut this week, and will be keen to silence those who have written him off after going winless throughout last season. On his day, he is capable of anything, and it would be foolish to rule him out this week on a course that is going to give up a lot of birdies!
With TV coverage scheduled for all four days, here at bet365 we shall of course be covering this event In-Running - markets will include Outright and 'Next Hole' betting. If you have yet to discover the thrill of betting on golf - now might be the time? There is no better place on a Sunday afternoon than sitting undisturbed on your sofa, with a well-stocked fridge, and your 66/1 selection bang in contention right up to the final hole!
NBA/NCAAB
On Saturday the No.1 ranked team in the nation is in action in the nation's capital to battle the Hoyas, while the sharp-shooting Tigers roar into Gainesville to take on Anthony Roberson and the 17th-ranked Gators. Sunday's big Western Conference match-up has Dallas hosting Sacramento - currently top of the Pacific Division.
